Glasgow’s initiative to bring together Glasgow City Council and its creative community to look at Life After the Pandemic saw the end of its first phase today.

Lateral North, a Glasgow research and design collective who have collaborated with Arctic and Nordic partners, are curating an initiative involving a Summer School. In partnership with the Design Weans, a Glasgow based creative networking organisation, the creative community were asked to develop ideas regarding how we bounce forward, not back, and the themes of environment, sustainability, health (including mental) and community. The Showcase will occur this evening, Thursday 09 July 20:00 (CET). You can register here.

Glasgow City Council, depute leader, Councillor David McDonald, and city convener for sustainability, Councillor Anna Richardson are on the judging panel, alongside Jill Miller, director of cultural Services, and other experts in the fields of architecture, art, urbanism, culture and community empowerment.

Councillor Richardson said “Glasgow is currently responding to the pandemic by implementing initiatives such as Spaces for People. The Showcase by Lateral North and the Design Weans demonstrates the appetite of the creative community to engage and shape the future of the city post COVID-19. This project demonstrates there is a different way of working which will also be vital to meeting the ecological and climate emergencies.”

Graham Hogg of Lateral North said: “We have been absolutely blown away by the entries to the summer school. They are really humbling and inspiring, and from a very broad range of entrants – including architects, graphic designers, charity workers, illustrators, educators and many more.”

Councillor McDonald said “Our creative community, architects, filmmakers, designers and musicians from Ireland to Iran, and across the wider globe, have made Glasgow their home, and are a key part of its recovery. This collaboration between the grassroots, communities and creatives provides a flavour of how rich the talent is in our City, the resilience of its citizens, and how Creatives Make Glasgow.” Watch a video about the initiative here.
